The
Fly Fisher's Place is a Sisters destination
By Jim Cornelius
Fly
fishers headed for Sisters’ magnificent waters waste no
time in beating a path to the doors of The Fly Fisher’s
Place at 151 W. Main Ave.
Beginner or expert, newcomer or veteran of the tricky waters
of the Deschutes watershed, all will find good tackle and good
advice here.
“People wait to get over from the Valley and get local
advice from us,” said owner Jeff Perin. “Which is
a really important part of our business.”
Perin doesn’t just offer the right fly and the best rod;
The Fly Fisher’s Place is a full-service outfitter, offering
lessons and guide trips on the Deschutes River, the McKenzie
River, the Crooked River and other waters.
They can even arrange for you to travel to Chile for the fishing
adventure of a lifetime.
“We really try to help beginners out with fishing schools
and price-point tackle that helps them break into the sport,”
Perin said.
All this is the culmination of a lifelong dream for Perin. He
remembers his cousin taking him flyfishing in the Deschutes
the day he moved to Central Oregon in 1980.
“I’ll never forget that day,” he said. “From
that moment I was absolutely hooked. From the time I was in
the fifth or sixth grade I knew that I wanted to own a fly shop.”
He fulfilled that goal at age 22 and has been operating The
Fly Fisher’s Place ever since.
Being a fly shop owner may indeed be a dream come true (who
wouldn’t love all that “field testing”?) but
Perin puts a lot of thought and work into building an inventory
that serves all the customers who beat a path to his door.
He loves creating a destination store for fishermen of all skill
levels, a place where beginners can learn about the sport he
loves and veterans can glean some good tips on the local waters.
It doesn’t hurt being in some of the best fly fishing
country in the world.
To ensure that everyone who wants to fish this summer can book
a trip, Perin has staffed up with nine guides, each of whom
is an expert on the water — and a good teacher.
So
whether you are an avid fisherman looking for the experience
of drifting down the Deschutes or a beginner just looking to
get his feet wet, come down to The Fly Fisher’s Place
and talk to Jeff and his staff.
They’ll
get you outfitted and on the fish — and they know they’ll
be seeing you again.
