Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show
Sisters
magically transforms into the quilt capital of the world on
the second Saturday of July each year. More than 1,100 vibrant
quilts decorate our picturesque Western-style town with rich
colors and textures. Hundreds of volunteers start at the crack
of dawn on show day to hang quilts on dozens of storefronts,
buildings, fences and walls.
This year,
the 33rd annual Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show takes place on Saturday,
July 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The show is free.
More than
10,000 visitors come to Sisters for this popular event.
“It’s
become the largest outdoor quilt show in the United States,”
said Ann Richardson, executive director of the show.
This year
traffic will be rerouted around Sisters’ downtown for
the show. A quarter mile of Cascade Avenue/Highway 20 will become
a pedestrian mall. Traffic and parking details are available
at www.sistersoutdoorquiltshow.org
after June 1.
The Quilt
Show is designed to appeal to quilters and non-quilters alike,
with a festival atmosphere, music and food.
“Even
if you’re not a quilter, the colors and designs will amaze
and inspire you, and the excitement of the people who come to
the show is definitely contagious,” said Richardson.
Quilters
from around the U.S. and the world submit quilts and about a
third of the submissions are for sale. Quilts in the show are
not juried or judged. Entries are welcome from expert art quilters,
as well as beginners. Special exhibits by well-known quilting
instructors Priscilla Bianchi, Karen Eckmeier, Kaye England,
Margaret Miller and Barbara Olson are sure to be crowd-pleasers
at this year’s show.
The Sisters
Outdoor Quilt Show is really a week-long series of events to
celebrate fiber and textile arts.
