Camp
Sherman 2008 events
Camp Sherman
prides itself on its peaceful quiet. Yet, thereıs still plenty
going on, with events that celebrate both the natural wonders
of the Metolius Basin and the spirit of the Camp Sherman community.
This year
Camp Sherman will host a couple of major events celebrating
the natural resources of the area.
The first,
Woodpecker Wonderland Festival, held Friday-Sunday, June 6-8,
will offer presentations, field trips, birding walks, workshops
and more so that birders can experience the wide variety of
woodpeckers that call Camp Sherman home. Call 541-408-1753 for
information.
Flyfishers
will revel in the Metolius River Bamboo Rod and Flyfishing Fair
set for Saturday-Sunday, July 19-20.
This fair
has grown into a major Sisters area event, drawing the finest
fly-tyers, rod manufacturers and guides to the perfect flyfishing
location — the Metolius River. The event delves deeply into
the mystique of the bamboo fly rod — and provides a great time
along the river, with live music and great food.
Speaking
of great times and great food, the Camp Sherman Store hosts
a series of holiday barbecues that have become favorites of
locals and visitors alike. The events feature delicious food
in a down-home setting with the best local musicians. This year,
there are barbecues on both the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend
and of Labor Day Weekend.
Call the
Camp Sherman Store at 541-595-6711 about details on both the
flyfishing event and the holiday barbecues.
Camp Shermanıs
Pine Needlers host their own quilt show the Friday before the
Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. The show is held in Camp Shermanıs
historic Community Hall and makes a delightful appetizer for
the big outdoor show in Sisters the following day. The Pine
Needlers host several other events throughout the year.
The Deschutes
Land Trust offers a series of interpretive walks in its Metolius
Preserve. Visit www.deschuteslandtrust.org
for more information and other events.
Things slow
down considerably during the winter, but Camp Sherman continues
to have fun with a series of ³Cabin Fever Potlucks² through
the snowy cold months.
